Jagruti has been working for proper health facilities in all government hospitals.
In 2019, high rate of anaemia among pregnant women triggered an initiative for 'Save Mothers' program. Several trainings to detect risky pregnancies were conducted. A public hearing was organized at Government Primary Health Centre at Bidi village for free distribution of ferrous sulphate tablets to pregnant women to reduce maternal mortality.
The community submitted a memorandum to the MLA of Khanapur taluk urging him to bring in place a free medicine policy intervention. A public hearing was also organized at the Khanapur Taluka Government Hospital. Community members swept and cleaned the surroundings of the hospital and requested for a clean hospital and streamlining the hospital services.
Both Jagruti and Jagrut Mahila Okkutta (JMO) are part of Saarvatrika Aarogya Aandolana - Karnnataka (https://saakarnataka.org/en/) - a state network of community based organisations. As a part of state level network, team members of JMO have done a survey of three Primary Health Centres in 2022-2023.
Koppal district is one among the hundred districts that has been identified by Niti Ayaog as the worst performing district with maximum number of malnourished children under six years. Jagruti trained five Nutrition Workers in each of the four talukas - Koppal, Gangavati, Kushtagi and Yelburga. So totally twenty Nutrition Workers were trained in anthropometric assessmnent by using the standard protocols as advocated by Karnataka State Minister for Women, Child and Senior Citizens. Children of 2000 mothers were assessed for malnutrition being SAM (Severly Acute Malnutrition), MAM (Moderately Acute Malnutrition), stunting or wasting.
Totally 4 rounds of assessments were done while educating the family members on proper nutrition and care of children. This guidance by Jagruti trained Nutrition Workers resulted in an improved state of nutrition and health among the children which was clearly observed in the surveys conducted.
